Formed in Wolverhampton in 1966, and with a chart career that spanned three decades, Slade are known as the beacons of light on the 70s social landscape as they belted out their thoroughly enjoyable stomping rock ‘n’ roll anthems.

The release of Cum On Feel The Hitz is a superlative and comprehensive collection of forty three of their singles from 1970 to 1991, which showcases the writing partnership between the owner of one of the most unique town cryer infused rock ‘n’ roll hollering vocals of all time, Noddy Holder, and bassist and violin player Jim Lea, who are responsible for writing songs of exceptional quality.

Available as a two disc CD with the full forty three tracks and a double vinyl album with twenty four singles, both of course contain their UK number one hits; the fabulous six of Cum On Feel The Noize, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Coz I Luv You, Take Me Bak ‘Ome, Skweeze Me Pleeze Me and of course Merry Xmas Everybody.

But this album also covers the often weird and wonderful world of Slade which includes the other sixteen songs that made it into the top ten, as well as a crucial slew of songs from the late 70s and 80s when the band wrote as a more serious but still fun rock act.

Some of the gems on this compilation include the easy rolling 7 Year Bitch which charted at number six when released in 1985, and similarly brilliant tracks like Wheels Ain’t Coming Down, Gypsy Roadhog, or Nobody’s Fool which all charted the wrong side of the top forty. And whilst as the 80s progressed the standard of their songs did seem to slip such as the wince inducing All Join Hands, We Won’t Give In and the dreadful 80s production on That’s What Friends Are For, they are all included on this compilation.

There are even some songs that failed to chart such as Ginny Ginny and Sign Of The Times. Showing their more emotional side, this album also includes their stadium ready piano ballads, My Oh My and How Does It Feel.

Cum On Feel The Hitz is not Slade’s first greatest hits album but it is by far the most extensive offering. They will always be synonymous with exciting and energetic glam fuelled hard rock straight out of the top drawer and this compilation shows just exactly why Slade are so loved.

It is just what is needed to cheer us up and take our minds off the pandemic and as Ozzy Osbourne once said “Noddy Holder’s got one of the greatest voices in rock ever” and on listening to this album, there cannot be any arguing with that.
