Bryan Adams was back at the Motorpoint Arena on Sunday night to celebrate his 15th studio album, So Happy It Hurts, written during the pandemic, and with an inflatable car which features in the video for the album title track hovering over the crowd, Adams came on stage to rapturous applause.
Projecting on a huge screen behind him was the announcement that he plays kick ass rockin’ music with a kick ass rockin’ band, before he launched into the opener of a twenty four song set list, unsurprisingly called Kick Ass. And with so many huge hits to showcase, the likes of Can’t Stop This Thing We Started, It’s Only Love and the emotional 1985 single Heaven with the crowd singing along, all came within the first half of the set.
Relaxed and chatty throughout, he introduced new songs Shine A Light which saw mobile phones burn bright around the Arena and On The Road which went down a storm. Summer of ’69 was a raunchier version before (Everything I Do) I Do It For You had the crowd singing the words back to him.
He found a ‘wild woman’ in the audience whose image much to her delight was shown on the screens as he sang If Ya Wanna Be Bad Ya Gotta Be Good and finishing the main set with fans favourites Please Forgive Me and Cuts Like a Knife, the crowd were nearly hoarse.
The encore began with the title track of the new album which had everyone dancing before These Are The Moments That Make Up My Life saw him and guitar maestro Keith Scott running around the stage. The band left the stage leaving Adams alone for a couple of acoustic songs, Straight From The Heart and of course All For Love, and as Adams waved at the crowd as he walked off, he left the crowd to wave back in pure appreciation.
