Country music sensation Kip Moore walked onto the stage at the Town Hall in Birmingham last night and with just a spotlight and a guitar for company, he began his acoustic evening with the delightful Bittersweet Company from his 2017 album, Slowheart.
Touring to promote his latest EP, Room To Spare: The Acoustic Session, he continued with Blonde, Running For You, the brilliant Crazy One More Time before finishing the solo part of his set with the lovely Complicated.
His band, the Slow Hearts, joined him on stage with dramatic instrumental play for Magic and with guitarists David Nassie and Adam Browder excelling as they delivered both the slow country songs together with the ones, they allowed Moore to have an immediate connection with the crowd.
With the added talent of bass player Manny Medina and drummer Erich Wigdahl, Moore’s time on stage really packed a punch. As he delivered as many songs as he could for his diehard fan base, he gave new song It Ain’t California an airing.
Brilliant single, Dirt Road was given a rare live airing, and as he mixed old and new songs seamlessly, he took a rapturous crowd to height after height. With many of them knowing every word to the songs, the concert very quickly turned into a mass sing along, especially on Plead The Fifth which had everyone out of their seats.
Just Another Girl and More Girls Like You absolutely shook the Hall with the crowd yelling out the lyrics and the arena anthem The Bull brought appreciative applause. Displaying his natural performance skills, there is something about him that is just so infectious showing that he is one heck of a showman. The energy he produced had the Hall buzzing with an electric atmosphere.
Wild Ones with its catchy chorus saw the crowd respond to the party anthem whilst Beer Money had them showing their appreciation during the songs first guitar lick. With a set list that contained pure rocking energy when he performed with his band, he also produced moments of intimacy when he slowed things right down and it was just him and his guitar. And that is how he ended the main set, with the delightful ballad, Hey Pretty Girl.
For the encore there was Backseat, and the smash hit, Somethin’ ‘Bout A Truck that saw him dance off the stage, before returning for the lovely Guitar Man, a real highlight of this set that was over far too soon.
Moore’s voice undoubtedly has a gravelly tinge to it, and with its power and passion you are drawn to it, making him a great live performer and one not to be missed.
