The former front man of The Rascals and co-front man of The Last Shadow Puppets brought his solo tour to Rock City on Friday night and the Birkenhead native and his talented band certainly had a great time.
With a set list chosen expertly to ensure that newer songs blended seamlessly with his older classics, it was new song Don’t Let It Get You Down that opened the evening. There were high energy songs Rearrange and Inhaler from his 2011 debut as a solo artist, The Colour Of The Trap, before Coup De Grace prompted a mass sing along with its surprisingly catchy chorus.
On the Rock City stage was his backing vocalist Rahh (real name Holly Quin-Ankrah) and her harmonies were a continual delight, as showcased on new song Nothing’s Ever Gonna Be Good Enough where the male and female duet was a particular highlight.
Blame It On The Summertime went down a storm before the crowd were treated to a glam rock infused Change The Show. Cry On My Guitar, Loaded and Don’t Forget Who You Are were also given an outing and new songs Caroline and Never Get Tired Of Dancing had the dedicated crowd belting out the words as though the songs had been around for years.
There was room for a cover of The Beatles’ Don’t Let Me Down as well as two tracks by The Last Shadow Puppets, Aviation and Standing Next To Me with its propulsive, enigmatic tune which was very well received.
Closing with fans favourite Come Closer, Kane had cemented his status as one of the figureheads of modern indie rock as he expertly wrapped this hugely appreciative crowd around his little finger without breaking a sweat.
