Steps were at the Motorpoint Arena last night to deliver a spectacular show that involved dancers, strobe lighting, glitter balls, ticker-tape, numerous costume changes and those Steps moves that no doubt this packed crowd have been practicing for months.

Getting the evening started was Sophie Ellis-Bextor, whose kitchen during the spring of 2020 became a haven of hope and optimism. Her Friday night home discos became an internet sensation and cemented her in the lockdown memories of the nation. Bouncing onto the stage last night to entertain with the likes of Take Me Home, Madonna’s Like a Prayer and her massive hit, Murder On The Dance Floor, the crowd really appreciated her live performance.

As a huge square clock lowered over the B stage, the countdown began. Rising to reveal Lee, Claire, Lisa, Faye and H, the fun really began with What The Future Holds. Making their way to the main stage for One For Sorrow and new song Heartbreak In This City, the crowd were instantly on their feet.

To facilitate the many costume changes they made great use of a screen that saw them singing a medley of songs whilst the immensely talented dancers danced around a huge neon Steps sign. Fans favourite, 5,6,7,8 saw the crowd enthusiastically joining in, before a cover of Diana Ross’s Chain Reaction had Steps stomping around the stage.

Making good use of stage B they wowed with the likes of Five Star’s The Slightest Touch, new song A Hundred Years Of Winter and Bananarama’s Last Thing On My Mind. With the latter part of the set list containing many of their hits, it was hard for anyone to keep still. Better The Devil You Know preceded Better Best Forgotten and for the encore, dressed in gold, there was that song, Tragedy which brought the whole evening of fun and nostalgia to a glorious close.
