Founded just three years ago in Limerick, Kingfishr have been making waves in the music industry since the release of their debut album, Halcyon, and on Friday night at Rock City they displayed their infectious sound and undeniable talent, which is catapulting them into the spotlight and solidifying them as being one of the most exciting bands to watch out for.

The trio comprising vocalist and guitarist Eddie Keogh, Eoghan ‘McGoo’ McGrath playing banjo and guitarist Eoin ‘Fitz’ Fitzgibbon, were given a rapturous welcome as they took to the stage to deliver opener, I Cried, I Wept. The infectious Shadow was the second song of the night with its brilliant chorus that had the crowd hooked from the off.

Naturally most of the set list comprised of songs from their album, but there were songs that the band had released as singles in the past that didn’t make it. Songs such as The Saviour, Heart In The Water and Killeagh were no strangers to the crowd who sang every word right back at them.

A stand out song is Shot In The Dark, a quiet ballad during which the three band members traditionally join the crowd whose mobile phone torches were switched on to add to the atmosphere thus creating a truly captivating moment.

The crowd were already familiar with the likes of Man On The Moon and Next To Me allowing the trio to display their magnificent musicianship. There was also the enchanting Diamonds & Roses and the mesmerising gem, Flowers – Fire, with its passionate vocals and explosive build up that left the Rock City crowd in awe.

With the main set closer being the brilliant Anyway it was not surprising that the crowd demanded an encore and Kingfishr duly delivered. Banjolude was followed by Eyes Don’t Lie before they brought their rousing set to a worthy conclusion with the excellent Caroline.

On this performance it was easy to see why they were chosen to support the likes of Bruce Springsteen, George Ezra and Dermot Kennedy because this is a band that comes with an abundance of energy, passion and charisma and delivers a set list that mixes traditional Irish folk with indie pop.

The trio’s success has been nothing short of outstanding, with sold out show following sold out show making it clear that they will be playing bigger venues any time soon and this humble band will have thoroughly deserved it.

The vocal powerhouse that is Tom Walker brought his I Am Tour to Rock City on Monday night and he arrived on stage to a sold out crowd.

Providing the perfect support was Limerick based trio, Kingfishr. Drawing from their Irish roots, they enchanted the crowd with a fusion of traditional and contemporary sounds, skilfully weaving melodies with a combination of banjo’s, acoustic and electric guitars.

Opening their set with Heart In The Water they immediately showed their musicality. With McGoo McGrath on banjo, Fitz Fitzgibbon on bass and Eddie Keogh’s lovely vocals, the set included a captivating Vancouver, the impressive Headlands and the passionate Leave. The night was highlighted by a moment when Keogh ventured into the crowd for Shot In The Dark that saw phone torches swaying along to the touching tune.

Kingfishr had delivered a dynamic and captivating performance and are one of those hidden talents that are going to be gracing bigger venues any time soon.

Walker took to the stage sporting his trademark hat and with guitar in hand he opened the evening with Rapture that showcased his outstanding and heartfelt lyrics which captured the crowd from the off. Delivering an effortless and flawless performance, he captivated with the likes of Angels, whilst the punchy song Cry Out reminded the crowd just how phenomenal his vocals are.

The instantly recognisable melody of Not Giving In set the crowd off as they raised their hands and sang every word back at him. Between songs he entertained with anecdotes about friends and family and introduced love songs, Just You And I and The Best Is Yet To Come dedicated to his wife and the emotional Lifeline, written about a friend who passed away and which was stunningly performed.

There was an inspiring rendition of Not Giving In whilst Burn was a real crowd pleaser. Ending his set with a passionate and heartfelt Better Half Of Me before the song which aided his rise to fame, Leave A Light On took the crowd back to his emotive best.

Walker’s voice remains powerful and emotional, his energy was infectious and the connection with the audience was undeniable as he delivered a phenomenal live performance that had thrilled from start to finish.
