English rock band Don Broco were at the Motorpoint Arena on Tuesday night to deliver a concert that was nothing short of electric, and which showcased their explosive energy from start to finish.
Front man Rob Damiani, guitarist Simon Delaney and drummer Matt Donnelly met at Bedford Modern School but it wasn’t until after studying at Nottingham University that they decided to become a band. Now joined by bassist Tom Doyle, they are playing arenas around the country after gracing the stage at Download earlier this year.
Delivering a set list that relied strongly upon their previous released singles and tracks from their four studio albums, they set their stall out with opener Cellophane which instantly ignited the room. Following up with a relentless assault of fans favourites, the likes of Come Out To LA, Technology and Pretty had the crowd screaming back every word.
With his expressive moves and commanding presence, Damiani owned the stage as he never kept still for a moment. Supported by the band’s tight and powerful musicianship, his energy never once dipped. The pace was heightened with Manchester Super Reds No 1 Fan as Damiani packed another punch during the fun yet chaotic song, and the slower emotive moments came with the likes of Nerve as his vocals soared and gave the crowd the chance to take a breather.
A particular high point came with Bruce Willis when Damiani orchestrated a venue wide roar of “Yippee Ki-Yay” before an encore that was the perfect chaotic climax. After a thunderous rendition of Fingernails and Everybody the familiar opening of T-Shirt Song sent the crowd into a euphoric frenzy and as what has become a beloved ritual, shirts came across the venue spun wildly in the air in a unified celebration.
Closing with Hype Man, a song that perfectly encapsulated the spirit of a Don Broco show, they showed that they have undeniable chemistry and that they are absolutely at the top of their game.
