After a difficult time and a long hiatus, James Morrison was welcomed back to the Royal Concert Hall on Tuesday night by a crowd that filled all of the seats.

Whilst his sixth studio album, Fight Another Day, was released last year, his current tour of the UK is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his smash hit debut album, Undiscovered. This album changed his life, from fitting carpets by day and playing open mics by night, he was suddenly in the charts for most of the second half of 2006.

Delivering a set list that included all of the songs from Undiscovered, some fans favourites and some new songs, he strolled out onto the stage with his guitar and launched into his opening number Under The Influence to raucous applause from his fans that have clearly missed him.

Following up with Undiscovered, he coaxed a sing along very early in his set as his gospel tones soared around the Concert Hall. He delivered the big hits such as The Pieces Don’t Fit Anymore, If The Rain Must Fall and The Letter as well as rarely performed songs such as One Last Chance and How Come.

There was a beautiful moving duet with his daughter Elsie of Broken Strings before You Make It Real and Nothing Ever Hurt Like You from his 2008 album Songs For You, Truths For Me had the crowd singing along. Ending his main set with the wonderful You Give Me Something, he handed the Concert Hall over to the crowd who belted out the lyrics.

With a discography that spans break up melancholy to exuberant love songs, this show was a medley of emotions, marred only by really poor sound quality that at times made his smooth smoky voice difficult to hear.

But finishing with an encore of Better Man, All Around The World and new song Little Wings, it was Wonderful World that had the entire crowd on their feet as he waved and strolled off the stage just as he had arrived, a star with no fuss.
