It was another sold out crowd who were at the Royal Concert Hall on Friday night to see Paloma Faith tour with her latest album The Glorification Of Sadness which was released earlier this year.
The album, written after her split from Leyman Lahcine has she said, empowered her and the lyrics of these songs showcased this. And whilst she still remains genuinely funny, sassy, unaplogetic and opinionated, she has developed a terrible potty mouth with constant use of the C word littering both sets.
Entering the stage via a ramp, the first set concentrated on the new album, which on her own admission included some dark and depressing songs. Opening with There’s Nothing More Human Than Failure, she had the crowd immediately on side. Taking every opportunity to promote her merchandise, which included T shirts emblazoned with an album song, Eat S..t And Die, she went on to deliver a fabulous version of Sweatpants and How You Leave A Man.
Towards the end of the set, the Concert Hall experienced a power malfunction which was quickly remedied as Paloma climbed over the seats in the audience to get to the mixing desk, but unfortunately the sound technician had lost her vocals.
All fixed for the second set there was the Paloma Faith that we all know and love looking resplendent in a red dress. Stone Cold Sober went down a treat, as did her biggest hits, Picking Up The Pieces and Crybaby. She delivered a powerful performance of Gold, the momentous A Perfect Contradiction and her dance hit, Lullaby, as well as inducing a mass sing along to Upside Down.
Finishing with Only Love Can Hurt Like This, she had the crowd on their feet, swaying with arms aloft and their mobile phones illuminating the Concert Hall, Paloma Faith had finished on a real high. It was great to see this bad woman back and really enjoying herself.
