Having toured extensively with renowned bands such as Thirty Seconds To Mars, Paramore and Fall Out Boy, You Me At Six have now become one of the biggest names in the industry and they were at the Motorpoint Arena on Thursday night to show that they have gone from teenagers who put their own spin on pop punk, to grown men known for crafting arena ready, radio friendly rock music.
Touring to promote their latest album, Truth Decay, the English five piece band fronted by vocalist Josh Franceschi, hit the stage with newbie Deep Cuts and continued with a ninety minute set that included a mix of classic fans favourites and new songs.
With bass guitarist Matt Barnes and drummer Dan Flint on a platform at the rear, rhythm guitarist Max Heyler, lead guitarist Chris Miller and Franceschi were left to dominate the stage on the likes of Fresh Start Fever and Straight To My Head.
Mixed Emotions (I Didn’t Know How To Tell You What I was Going Through) was both lyrically and musically a beautiful song with Franceschi’s emotive and passionate vocals had the crowd hanging on every word, before God Bless The 90’s Kids upped the tempo and had them clapping along.
But it was their older material that stole the show, such as MAKEMEFEELALIVE’s infectious beats that had everyone dancing, singing and pumping their fists in the air, the brilliant arena ready Stay With Me and the star of the show, Bite My Tongue.
Finishing the main set with a stunning acoustic rendition of No One Does It Better, they were quickly back for the monstrous SUCKAPUNCH, spirited renditions of Underdog and Reckless and set closer the stirring Beautiful Way.
Having delivered a melting pot of songs that reflect real life influences, it is easy to forget just how long YMAS have been around. And because they are living proof that good music still exists, it does not look like they will be going away anytime soon.
